According to The Guardian, the donation will lead to the creation of a new school of government bearing the billionaire’s name. British billionaire hedge fund manager Chris Rokos has donated a record £190 million to the University of Cambridge to establish a new school of government that will carry his name.

This is believed to be the largest donation ever made to any UK university in modern times and is intended to support Cambridge in becoming a leading training center for future global leaders.

Rokos, a 55-year-old and one of the wealthiest individuals in the United Kingdom, will initially provide £130 million, along with up to an additional £60 million to be matched by the university. Discussions have been ongoing for some time, but the Rokos School of Government will open this autumn in temporary premises and will offer both doctoral and master’s degrees.

Eventually, it will move to a new building in the Cambridge West Innovation District and aims to compete with the Blavatnik School of Government at University of Oxford, which was established in 2010 following a £75 million donation from Soviet-born businessman Leonard Blavatnik.

It is worth noting that Rokos is one of the United Kingdom’s largest taxpayers, and according to last year’s Sunday Times Rich List, his wealth is estimated at £2.6 billion. He began his career at Goldman Sachs and Credit Suisse, and was a co-founder of the hedge fund Brevan Howard
