Admissions Overview & Key Requirements

Ofsted has issued guidance to schools on using QR codes in their new report cards. The aim is to prevent parents from selecting only positive ratings and to ensure that the full report is accessible alongside any information shared by schools.
Sir Martyn Oliver stated last month that parents should be able to see the entire report, not just the best parts. In this context, Ofsted will provide QR codes, although schools will not be legally required to publish them.
In a letter sent to schools today, Ofsted explained how QR codes should be used in marketing materials. The letter notes that schools can highlight inspection results as they wish – for example, by listing ratings or quoting directly from the report card. However, Ofsted requests that any printed material is accompanied only by the new official QR “badge.”
Schools Week reports that this is not a legal requirement for schools, and no consequences will apply for non-compliance. Sir Martyn Oliver added that the new report cards provide a clear and detailed description of a provider’s strengths and areas for development, and a simple rating does not overshadow these details. Schools, colleges, and nurseries can present their achievements as they choose, but it is essential that parents and guardians have easy access to the full inspection report in order to understand results in full context.
The new QR badges will be a useful addition to banners, brochures, and booklets, promoting transparency and accessibility when sharing inspection results. The badges can be downloaded at the bottom of each school’s Ofsted webpage.
