About the program

This 24-week fall internship will be conducted within Netflix’s Video Algorithms team. The main goal of the project is to explore the potential of Gaussian Splatting technology as a future video streaming format.

Participants will work in the following areas:

  • Research on GS model compression strategies
  • Conducting experiments on open datasets
  • Analyzing the balance between model size, training time, and image quality
  • Developing methods to reduce training and encoding time
  • Creating a prototype GS-based rendering system

Eligibility 

  • Be pursuing a PhD in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or statistics
  • Have a graduation date of June 2027 or later
  • Be proficient in the Python programming language
  • Possess practical knowledge of machine learning and deep learning
  • Have research experience in 3D/4D scene reconstruction, NeRF, Gaussian Splatting, or neural graphics

Preferred qualifications:

  • CUDA, WebGL, and GPU programming skills
  • Knowledge of video compression and AV1/HEVC codecs
  • Participation in open-source multimedia projects
  • Experience with cloud systems and distributed computing

Scholarship and financial opportunities

The Netflix internship program is fully paid. The company provides participants with an hourly wage.

The internship salary ranges as follows:

  • Minimum: $40 USD/hour
  • Maximum: $110 USD/hour

Compensation is determined based on the candidate’s skills, experience, and region.
