According to China Daily, Harbin Engineering University is strengthening its “talent-driven development” strategy by introducing a new recruitment model focused on openness, targeted training systems, and long-term retention incentives.

In recent years, the university has actively recruited high-level professionals from across the globe to work in natural sciences and engineering fields. Earlier this year, it issued an international recruitment announcement, inviting outstanding young scholars to join its academic staff. To attract candidates, the university has implemented a high-standard support package. Selected applicants are offered formal faculty positions and may be directly appointed as professors and doctoral supervisors. In addition to base salaries, they are eligible for performance-based bonuses tied to research achievements and key contributions.

The institution also provides housing subsidies and ensures access to educational resources for faculty members’ children, from kindergarten through high school. Recruits can benefit from provincial-level talent incentives covering 12 areas, including residency registration, travel arrangements, and healthcare services. Beyond financial support, the university emphasizes academic development by encouraging the creation of “small but elite” interdisciplinary innovation teams and offering dedicated office and laboratory space.

The university is currently recruiting leading experts, distinguished scholars, and promising young researchers in fields such as shipbuilding, artificial intelligence, and underwater acoustics. To broaden research opportunities, it has established additional research bases in Shandong, Jiangsu, and Hainan provinces.

Through its recruitment brand, the Xinhai Forum, the university has significantly expanded its global outreach. The 10th forum, held in 2025, attracted around 4,000 scholars from both China and abroad. Last year, the proportion of newly hired faculty members with international academic experience exceeded 40 percent for the first time. The university’s global recruitment network now spans regions including Hong Kong, Australia, and the United Kingdom.

The university’s talent development efforts have also been recognized through several prestigious honors, including national-level teaching team awards and major science and technology prizes.
