A group of 21 high-achieving students at Flinders University has received Playford Trust scholarships, boosting their pathways into critical STEM careers and addressing growing demand for skilled professionals in science and engineering.

The scholarships were presented at the annual Playford Trust ceremony, held on campus. The event featured a welcome address from Professor Giselle Rampersad, Interim Deputy Vice-President and Executive Dean of the College of Science and Engineering.

Among the distinguished guests was Peter Neal, son of the late Sir Eric Neal, after whom the university’s engineering building is named.

During the ceremony, Mr Neal presented the Hon Sir Eric Neal AC CVO Engineering Scholarship to mechanical engineering honours student Jamie Wickstein. The award recognizes both academic excellence and commitment to the engineering field.

Mr. Wickstein began his studies in 2021 following four years of full-time service in the Australian Army. His passion for advanced defence technologies has driven his ambition to contribute to innovations that strengthen Australia’s sovereign capabilities.
