Azerbaijani universities improve their positions in QS rankings

According to the rankings, three Azerbaijani universities have entered the global Top 800 for the first time in the country's history. The number of Azerbaijani universities represented in the Top 1000 has also increased from six to seven, while the total number of universities from Azerbaijan included in the ranking has reached ten.

Baku State University climbed 123 positions to rank 565th globally. Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC) improved from the 801–850 band to 634th place, while Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University moved up from the 851–900 range to the 711–720 band.

In addition, Azerbaijan Technical University, Khazar University, Baku Engineering University, Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction, and ADA University all improved their positions in the ranking. Sumgayit State University maintained its previous standing, while Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University entered the QS rankings for the first time.

The number of Azerbaijani universities included in the ranking is 2.5 times higher than the combined total of universities from the other South Caucasus countries represented in the list.

It is worth noting that until 2025, no Azerbaijani university had been ranked within the global Top 800. In 2025, one university achieved this milestone for the first time, and by 2026 the number had increased to three.

The QS World University Rankings include more than 1,500 universities from 106 countries worldwide.
