Azerbaijani universities enter global top 100 in QS Subject Rankings
Azerbaijan has secured a place in the global top 100 of the QS World University Rankings by Subject, marking a significant milestone in the country’s higher education development.
According to the 2026 edition of the QS subject rankings, Azerbaijan is represented by seven universities across 22 academic fields — nearly doubling the number of participating institutions and quadrupling the number of disciplines compared to previous years.
Baku State University has become the first Azerbaijani university to enter the global top 100 in the rankings. Notably, Azerbaijan is the only country from the South Caucasus region included in this list.
In addition, Azerbaijani universities have demonstrated stronger improvement dynamics compared to regional peers such as Turkey, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.
Alongside Baku State University, Azerbaijan State University of Economics and Azerbaijan University of Languages have improved their positions. Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University has re-entered the rankings this year.
Meanwhile, Baku Engineering University, Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction, and Azerbaijan Technical University have been included for the first time.
The QS subject rankings evaluate nearly 1,900 higher education institutions and over 21,000 academic programs across more than 100 countries. The assessment is based on five key indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per paper, H-index, and international research collaboration.
