Eight universities from Hong Kong have secured places in the 2026 Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings, with two flagship institutions maintaining their positions in the region’s top 10 and two others entering the top 100 for the first time.

According to the 2026 Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings, Hong Kong’s higher education sector has once again demonstrated strong regional performance. Among the eight institutions listed, University of Hong Kong ranked sixth, while Chinese University of Hong Kong held the 10th position, securing places in the top tier.

Other Hong Kong universities also performed strongly, with Hong Kong University of Science and Technology ranked 12th, City University of Hong Kong 14th, Hong Kong Polytechnic University 18th, and Hong Kong Baptist University 40th.

A notable highlight this year is the first-time entry of two institutions into the top 100. Education University of Hong Kong reached 37th place, while Lingnan University ranked 84th, marking significant milestones for both universities.

In a social media post, Christine Choi, Secretary for Education of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), attributed the strong results to sustained government investment and targeted measures aimed at enhancing the city’s competitiveness in education. She added that the Education Bureau will continue collaborating with local institutions to strengthen Hong Kong’s position as an international hub for higher education and talent.

Meanwhile, John Lee Chi-Kin, president of EdUHK, described the university’s debut in the rankings as a milestone, highlighting its commitment to impactful research and a globally oriented learning environment.

The Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings evaluate universities based on 18 performance indicators, including teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook, and industry engagement.
